The Swansea Bay Region includes four local authorities: Pembrokeshire, the City and County of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire County Councils. The region is a significant driver of the Welsh economy and has a resident population of 691,000 supporting some 303,000 jobs and containing around 22,500 businesses.
Swansea is the economic hub of this large and diverse region that contains both urban centres and a wide array of rural locations with distinctive yet inter-connected economies and communities. A prime example of this is Milford Haven, the town has grown around one of the largest natural harbours in the world and is responsible for almost one third of UK ‘s natural gas imports. The steelworks at Port Talbot and Trostre in Llanelli are major employers and reminders that the area was once a world leader for industry.
