Motivation Techniques for Staff

In this guide I will be going through examples of motivation techniques to utilise in the workplace. Workers need inspiration and motivation to do their work well. Unmotivated workers tend to be less productive. They work slower, put less effort into their work, and they don’t enjoy their work as much. When a worker is motivated they tend to want to finish their work and put as much effort as they can into it. If you are running a business and want it to be successful you need to have protocols in place in order to motivate your staff. Motivation in the workplace is a must and it has been terribly undervalued and needs to have more focus shed on it.

Today I will be touching base on a few motivation techniques that you can implement to help keep your workplace productive, energised, and motivated. With the use of these techniques you will be able to engage your employees and spread motivation and growth throughout your business. Firstly, what are employee motivation techniques? Well, motivation techniques can be internal or external influences that can contribute to increased employee productivity and satisfaction in work. Some employees need to feel excited and inspired in order to commit their values to your company, the use of motivational tools can very much help inspire and encourage said employees.

Use your employee’s Input

Asking for your employee’s input is a great way to start gaging what support you should put in place. If you regularly survey your employees you will be able to know if they are satisfied with their workplace or not. Depending on the results you can then start adding suitable techniques to motivate your work-force! Furthermore, ask for suggestions for what you can do to improve the work conditions. The step doesn’t end there… After you get your worker’s opinions and suggestions, you must take the adequate steps in order to start implementing these changes. It will help show your employees that they are deeply valued and that you are just as loyal to them as you want them to be loyal to you. This is a good stepping stone for you to motivate your workers!

Offer enrichment programs

Having personal enrichment programs available can mean that you could send your workers to seminars, classes, and workshops where they can improve their skills. This step is great for making hiring within the company easier. Have opportunities ready to help encourage your employees to throw themselves into professional development!

Validating your employees great work

Inspire your work-force by validating their good work. Nobody wants to put time and effort into a piece of work and have no validation for it, not even a thank you. You must show your appreciation in person. Giving compliments or expressing your gratitude can go a long way. Also, make sure to give specific examples of the things they did that benefitted your team. Another example of showing your gratitude to your employees could be a handwritten note thanking them for the effort put in - this will have a huge impact as it is a very personal way of thanking a worker.

Setting intermittent goals

When setting goals for your team you don’t want to set any projects too big or unmeasurable. Set smaller, measurable goals as this is a very valuable way to keep your team motivated when working on a project. Helping your team set achievable and reasonable goals can keep your workers encouraged, inspired, and motivated when they hit notable milestones within the task.

Make sure to celebrate achievements and milestones

This technique is especially needed if your employees are working on a project that has a long-term goal. By simply celebrating the smaller milestones along the course of the team’s project can help everyone involved be encouraged and focused on the work. As mentioned before, validation and gratitude are a very important part of showing your team that you recognise their milestones but giving out rewards for good work can also help. Having time off, gift certificates, or even financial bonuses for meeting milestones in projects can help motivate everyone.… I’m sure most would agree!

Positivity… radiate it!

Ensuring your workplace is a positive environment will do wonders for employee productivity. The easiest way of doing this is by radiating positivity yourself. Allow yourself to joke around (appropriately!), play music, laugh and have fun! Research has been done that shows happiness can significantly boost productivity of your workforce. The main part of this technique is really to just enjoy being in the office and allowing yourself to consistently conduct high energy whilst being at work. It will do wonders for your employees' motivation and productivity.

Mentorship

Create a mentorship program so you can further offer understanding, advice, and encouragement. For example, if your employees work in a sector that specialises in a sector that family and friends do not understand, having a mentor to talk to can be an invaluable resource to have access to. This way your employees can talk through their concerns and you can also let it be known to them that you appreciate their good work. Having a mentorship program in place where you can pair up more experienced employees with less experienced ones to help give them guidance and support along their career journey. Encouragement and words of advice make the world go around.

A comfortable and inspiring workplace

Make sure you push employee encouragement and make sure they take breaks and de-stress throughout the workday. This can be; popping outside for a stroll, walking to a nearby coffee shop, or even offering meditation or yoga classes in lunch breaks to help encourage your team. This can help push your team to pursue these activities whenever they are feeling bleak or are stuck on a project.
